Do You Know the Different Types of Solar Panels?

1. Monocrystalline silicon solar panels

Monocrystalline silicon solar panels can be divided into ordinary monocrystalline silicon and high-efficiency solar panels. The photoelectric conversion efficiency is up to 24%. This is the highest photoelectric conversion efficiency of all types of solar panels. However, the production cost of monocrystalline silicon solar cells is very high. So large that it has not been widely and universally used in large numbers.

Since monocrystalline silicon solar panels are generally encapsulated with toughened glass and waterproof resin, they are durable and have a service life of up to 25 years.

2. Polycrystalline silicon solar panels

The production process of polycrystalline silicon solar panels is similar to that of monocrystalline silicon solar panels, but the photoelectric conversion efficiency of polycrystalline silicon solar panels has to be reduced a lot. The photoelectric conversion efficiency of polycrystalline solar panels is about 12%.

In terms of production costs, polycrystalline silicon solar panels are cheaper than monocrystalline pv panels. Polycrystalline silicon solar panels are easy to manufacture, save power, and have a lower total production cost. Therefore, polycrystalline silicon solar panels have been developed in a large amount. In addition, the service life of polycrystalline silicon solar panels is shorter than that of monocrystalline silicon solar panels.

3. Amorphous silicon solar panels

Amorphous silicon solar panels are a new type of thin-film solar panels that appeared in 1976, with the greatest toughness and flexibility. It is completely different from the production methods of monocrystalline silicon solar panels and polycrystalline silicon solar panels. The process of amorphous silicon solar panels is greatly simplified, with little silicon material consumption and lower power consumption. Its main advantage is that it can generate electricity in low light conditions.

However, the main problem of amorphous silicon solar panels is that the photoelectric conversion efficiency is low. The international advanced level is about 10%, and it is not stable enough. As time goes by, its conversion efficiency decays.

4. Multi-compound solar panels

Multi-compound solar panels refer to solar panels that are not made of a single element semiconductor material. There are many kinds of researches in various countries, most of which have not been industrialized, mainly as follows:

1) Cadmium sulfide solar panels

2) GaAs solar panels

3) Indium Selenide Solar Panel
